Langtang Gosainkunda – 13 Days

Langtang Valley is the nearest Himalayan Region from Kathmandu valley, few hours drive from Kathmandu will take you to the beautiful Langtang region. Despite being very close to Kathmandu, the Langtang Region is as wild as any Tibetan highlands with idyllic rural landscape. The people living in the highlands of the Langtang region are certainly Nepalese but being the descendant of the Tibetan origin, they look like the Tibetans. Hence, Langtang region is one of the most popular trekking regions for those wishing a short trek from Kathmandu into the Himalayas influenced by Tibetan lifestyle. Moreover, accompanying with the varieties of rhododendron, bamboo forests, majestic waterfalls and snow-capped Himalayas make the trek one of the most diverse treks nearby Kathmandu.

Day 01: Drive Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,450 m.) by local bus. (Approx. 8 hours’ drive)

Drive north-west out of the Kathmandu Valley with following via beautiful Tamang villages of Betrawati and Dhunche. we’ll get a glimpse of Ganesh Himal after driving along the mighty Trishuli river. Terraced green hills and lush forests make the drive very pleasurable. Parts of the road though may be bumpy and under construction. Stay overnight at hotel.

Day 02: Trek Syabrubeshi to Lama Hotel (2,480 m.)  Approx. 6 hrs. Walk.

The first part of the trail crosses the Bhote Koshi River and follows the Langtang Khola. Trail gradually ascends to Bamboo passing rugged paths. Afterwards, our trek climbs gently to Rimche and continue to Lama Hotel. Stay overnight.

Day 03: Trek Lama Hotel to Langtang Village (3,307 m.) Approx. 5 hrs. Walk.

The trail steeply ascent following the Langtang Khola, to Ghora Tabela.  After this, the trail climbs gradually to the beautiful valley through rain forest to Thangshep where we can sight mount Langtang Lirung. Then the valley opens out and at times some pleasant level sections give respite some. After some easy walk we will rich to a beautiful village Langtang. Is looks like Tibetan village. Stay overnight.

Day 04: Trek LangtaFB_IMG_1452341316539ng village to Kyanjin Gompa (3,798 m.) Approx. 4 hrs. Walk.

The route cross yak pastures with following a wonderful stream. As we continue to follow the trail pass some Tamang settlement like Mundu and Sindum. After 4 hours work finally we will be on Kyanjin Gompa. . This beautiful valley is on the lap of the Langtang Lirung. There are some interesting things to explore, especially the famouse cheese factory. Don’t forget to try some locally produced cheese as fresh as it could get and There is some spot where we can explore the valley and climbs several small peaks. Stay overnight.

IMG_1098Day 05: Excursion around Kyanjin Gompa.

The day hike further up the valley for spectacular views that include Langtang Lirung (7246 m.),  Langshisa Ri (6320 m.), Ganchenpo (6400 m.), Lenpo Gang (7100 m.), and Urkinmang (6170 m.),  Dorje Lakpa (6700 m.) If we start early in the morning Excursion to east of Kyanjin Gompa is 5000m Tserko Ri. And acclimatized, you should be able to climb this peak and return to Kyanjin Gompa in long day. The reward for climbing to the prayer flags on its summit is a magnificent view of the Langtang Lirung, the mountain that dominates the valley. Several more moderate local peaks are quite climbable and provide breathtaking panoramic views of mountains including Chisa Pangma (8,027 m.) In the Tibet. Back to guest house at Kyanjin. Stay overnight.

Day 06: Trek back Kyangin Gompa to Lama Hotel (2,480 m.) Approx. 6 hrs. Walk.

Through the same trail in a day’s walk from Kyanjin Gompa. To Ghoretabal. Then descending also same way to Lama Hotel. Stay overnight.

Day 07: Trek Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru. (2,250 m.) Approx. 5 hrs. Walk.IMG_1128

Beginning of the trail gently descends to the Bamboo.  From Bamboo the trail is little bit descending to the Pahiro (Landslide). En route we could see various animals like, red pandas, monkeys, bear and various species of birds. After Pahiro trail goes up to reach Thulo Syabru. This settlement is famous and wonderful Tamang village with culture of Tamang. From here we can enjoy the amazing land feature and the magnificent nature with splendid views of Ganesh Himal and Langtang Himal. Stay overnight.

 Day 08: Thulo syabru to Singgompa (3,584 m.) Approx. 6 hrs. Walk.

The trails from Thulo Syabru follows a steep ascent path passing through Dursagang to Foprang Danda  along with the views of Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himal, Tibetan Mountain, Hemlock and forests. Now the path gently ascends for a while then it follows a flat level to Sing Gompa where we have local yak cheese factory. The cheese manufactured here is considered the best in Nepal. There is also we have beautiful and old Buddhist Monastery. Singgompa provides panoramic views, exhilarating nature. Stay overnight.

Day 09: Trek SiFB_IMG_1452340504127nggompa to Gosaikunda (4,300 m.) Approx. 6 hrs. Walk.      

From Sing gompa first part of the trail is steadily climb up to Laurebinayak through rhododendron forest with the Trisuli Khola far below. We are climbing and stays in deep rain forest for a while, then emerges onto a saddle via Cholang Pati. Laurebinayak is one of the best point for of excellent view mountains like Lantang, Ganesh himal, Manaslu and many more. After this place we will climbing. On the way to the beautiful stupas then we will see more mountains range like manaslu, Annapurna and Tibetan peaks. Then we follow a rugged trail with dramatic views and have your first views of the holy lake of Gosaikunda. There are about a dozen lakes in the Gosainkunda Basin – the three most important ones are Saraswatikunda, Bhairabkunda and Gosainkunda. According to legend Gosainkunda was created by Lord Shiva when he pierced a glacier with his trident to obtain water to quench his thirst after swallowing poison that threatened to destroy the world. Stay overnight.

IMG_1181Day 10: Trek Gosaikunda to Thadepati (3,430 m.) Via Laurebinayak pass (4,610m) Approx. 7 hrs. Walk.

The challenging walking day From Gosaikunda. The trail skirts the shore of the lake before ascending towards the Laurebina Pass 4610 m. After excellent view of mountains and valley from top of the pass, your destination becoming another ridge and valley. The trail now descends steeply first then becoming more gradual, to the southeast on a rocky path to Phedi. From Phedi you continue walk to Ghopte. Then bit descends to more caves and enters a pine forest and rhododendrons.  After we crossing a stream, the trail will be final ascent to our destination Thadepati. Stay overnight.

Day 11: Trek Thadepati to Kutumsangu (2,471 m.) Approx. 6 hrs. Walk.

A gentle walk via Mangengoth (3,150 m.) gradually descending via Rhododendron forest.  If we are trek in spring season the forest be colourful. Thrught the some local village we reach wonderful Tamang settlement Kutumsangu. Stay overnight.

Day 12: Trek Kutumsangu to Chisopani (2,194 m.) Approx. 6 hrs. Walk.

In the morning we can see the sunrise over the snowcapped mountains. The fast part easy walk to Goi Bhanjyang. Then trek uphill through rain forest to Namche Danda. After that we descent down stone steps to next village “Chipling” and trek continue but gentle walk to get finally “ Chisopani.”  Chisapani is another view point of sunrise and sunset. Besides, we would explore tribal culture and mountain lifestyle. Stay overnight.

Day 13: Trek Chisopani to Sundarijal 3 ½ hrs. Walk then drive 1 hrs. To Kathmandu.

After seen sunrise/sunset views we will see the Tamang Habitants and will follow the trail across the Mulkharka and Shivapuri National Park. Trail will be manly descent all the way to Sundarijal. Then we drive back to Kathmandu which takes approximately an hour. Stay at Hotel. Evening will be for a farewell dinner with Nature Hike Nepal team.
